Serene Babymoon

My husband and I chose the Speedwell Forge for our babymoon, which ended up being exactly what we were looking for: a quiet and relaxing space to enjoy each other's company before the craziness of baby's arrival. The accommodations are comfortable, and the food is fantastic. I was concerned about the comfort of the bed, but the room and bed were exceptionally comfortable and clean. It is lovely to stroll slowly along the paths and to watch the wolves. We had a serene babymoon thanks to this excellent B and B!

Our 'delayed' honeymoon here was simply lovely. The beautiful, secluded and clean cottage is perfect for relaxing and enjoying each other. We also like hearing the wolves howling last night. The hospitality is gracious and we will certainly recommend Speedwell Forge to others. Mark & Ingrid

Our stay was everything we expected (and more)! A quick honeymoon getaway that was a much needed time to relax and distress. We had the amazing time here. The cabin is beautiful with it's rustic charm. In every corner and drawer you can find anything and everything you could ever need or want. We could sense the love and thought put into making this a special place. Dawn makes the most Delicious and unique breakfasts. She has more hospitality than the 100 employees at chain hotels. We would definitely recommend this to friends and family and plan to return soon! We truly enjoyed our stay, it was everything and more than what we were looking for! Cara and John

John and I had a tremendous weekend. We are newlyweds being married Sept 4, 2010. I must confess that our weekend at your B&B was BETTER than our honeymoon!!! We had tickets for the Sight&Sound Theater on Friday afternoon. We stayed in the comfy cozy Paymaster's Office and had a couple's massage Friday night. What an experience. The massage therapists were professional experienced and truly fabulous!! The candle light, soft music, warm therapy beds and firelight made the experience unforgettable. This was my 3rd visit to your home. John and I are making this an annual fall event and we are looking forward to seeing you for many years to come. Your breakfast meals can not be beat. Our dinner at the King-Crest farm was delightful. Thank You Thank You.

I treated my friend to a day in Lititz and an overnight stay at her first B&B for her birthday. I've stayed in many B&B's an dthis is the most wonderful one yet- it's so luxurious and amazing! The restoration and special touches are amazing! It's obvious you love this home- it shows in every nook and cranny. We turned the heat down so we could awaken to a chilly snowy morning and then feel the comforting warmth of the gorgeous quilts. This room is by far the best I've stayed in. Looking for a B & B

My husband and I were looking for a B&B away from it all and close to nature. We were very happy with the location and surroundings of Speedwell Forge. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to offer suggestions and answer any questions. We enjoyed the company of all the people we met there. Even though it was raining, we saw the wolf sanctuary and were fascinated to see them up close and hear their howling which was both strange and beautiful. Our room, was delightful; it is named after the owner's grandmother, Kathryn.

The strawberry rhubarb pie that she baked was incredibly delicious, as was the breakfast of baked apples, granola and quiche with fresh vegetables. Since staying at Speedwell Forge, we have also gotten into the habit of leaving our shoes at the door! It felt like home, walking around in our slippers.

I would also like to recommend a wonderful paperback book that I bought in the nearby town of Lititz, for sale in the Col. Sutter Hotel and restaurant. It is called "Breakfast with Buddha." A wonderful story.

We came for my husband's 50th birthday (yes he was born on Halloween). Last May was our 19th wedding anniversary and we made arrangements to stay at a place that was ranked five star. But was a disaster! The room was awful. My husband through I got him in another one of my wild ideas when we pulled into the lane at Speedwell BUT what a wonderful surprise when we walked into the Paymaster! Everything was over and beyond. Merry Christmas reader! Santa found us here, in this lovely cottage, overlooking a stream. As we were nestled in our warm bed, fire roaring, he blessed us with presents under the tiny, sparkling tree. We woke before first light and opened our gifts, one by one. Our anniversary was the 18th, so we decided to come up here to celebrate. This place was great fun- it's beautiful with its wood floors and walls and big fireplace (I only miss the crackling & popping of red wood burning). What a perfect romantic getaway though- sitting in the tub, up to our heads in bubbles, watching the fire, with the rubber ducky. Ok, so not with the rubber ducky, but seriously, this place is great. We've got friends who are thinking of coming up in early 2008, and we'll definitely recommend this to them (Just be sure to clean this place well after them! Don't forget!) The bathrobes were a highlight too- I never realized how good I could look in one. The finishing touch here would be a big bear rug on the floor in front of the fire. But my wife and I debated over how comfy that would be- I thought it might be too prickly- is their fur coarse?? At any rate, thanks for everything- it was great. Joel and Erin

If I were an 18th century writer, I would have chiseled my quills, selected my ink pots, and guided my feathered quill across the parchment lines to start great literary works from the serenity of this Paymaster's House. If I were a nineteenth century musician composer, I would have brought my harp inside and etched the premier notes of a fine quartet or symphony from the back window looking over the watery reflections of the creekside. The wolves and crickets provided the nightscape sounds complete with a 5:00 A.M. Lunar Eclipse. The well polished tounge and grove walls and floors provided stately cool comfort, we longed for this dream house without knowing it, until we came through its doors and the Jacuzzi hummed and the fireplace flames played Pattycake and silhouettes danced on the ceiling. The lovely little details made us feel very pampered and contributed alot. Having restored a 1798 farmhouse in Brimfield, Virginia, I appreciate all the incredible hard work, research, attention to the details you've poured into this beautifully rehabbed historic house (and property). Grey and drizzly weather didn't hamper our delight in Lancaster, Gettysburg and Hershey. Kate (15) and Tai (10) stayed interested throughout-wolves, Intercourse, chocolate, Amish buggies and the glorious land, farms, FOOD! So nice to meet you, Matt and Darron thank you for everything. What a romantic place, even when you've been married 42 years! Everything was perfect! Thank you for making our one-night getaway so special. Thank you for making our 17th anniversary so memorable. Your B&B is the epitomy of romance. Our love for B&Bs began w/ our honeymoon and it has taken us 16 years to get away alone again. This long weekend served as a 2 week late honeymoon for us, and we both agree it truly was wonderful. We loved our room, and are dreaming of one just like it when we have a house of our own. Dawn, you have exceptional taste, and were so helpful to us... truly going above and beyond. The picnic lunch after the wolf sanctuary tour had to have been our favorite activity this weekend. This was a very nice birthday surprise! You have a lovely home. Thank you for sharing it with us. This is the most beautiful place I've ever stayed. The in-room picnic gave us a lovely excuse to enjoy this amazing room. Everything feels better in such gorgeous surroundings. Tub=heaven. So it was a wonderful surprise on Nathan's part for my birthday. Much needed getaway from work! The room was beautiful, and words can't describe the bathroom!
